Abracadabra! (continued)
I was happy to spend another day at the Larcom Theater and get the chance to return to working with Richard Heath; the principal artist for Le Grand David at the Cabot Theater and an exceptional performer to boot. Retiring after 35 years of performing, Mr. Heath has been able to concentrate his time on his artistry.
Deborah & Dr. Watson, Cambridge
After a trip to the MIT Museum with my family and winding our way on Mass. Ave. for lunch I had the pleasure of meeting this pair and detouring from my group for a quick portrait. Dr. Watson had a recent ACL operation . . .
Dr. Theoharides
While on assignment for a medical magazine I learned that Dr. Theoharides is working on methods of getting children with autism to speak for the first time in their lives. An incredibly inspirational man to spend time with.
Donald Heller, Hurdy Gurdy with Mack the Knife
I've had the pleasure of meeting Donald a couple of times while traversing the streets of Boston. You can hear Europe reach across the Atlantic when he plays this unusual instrument. I will update this blog after I have the opportunity to do some portrait work . . .
A Series of Dreams . . .
I have vivid dreams almost every night that I sometimes try to translate into photographs. . .
KBMG at a church in Rockport, MA
When I listen to the lyrics and music of KBMG, I'm not sure if I'm in Massachusetts or walking on a dirt trail in my home state of Colorado—that's what their stories do for me. I was lucky to pull out the members (OK, I somehow missed the guitarist) for individual portraits before the show started. Putting the camera aside to enjoy the show and let the sweet sounds roll at a church in Rockport in the late fall . .
Professional Center for Child Development Portraits
This collage is from my third trip to the PCCD (Professional Center for Child Development) in Andover, MA. I have so much fun working with these kids. I think this statement from their website sums up their work nicely: "Our mission is to provide therapeutic and educational services for children of all abilities and their families, working with each child to develop to his or her full potential. We strive to eliminate barriers to growth and development for children with disabilities and families coping with health issues and challenges." I think they are pretty amazing.
Damon & Naomi
It's been twenty-five years since Julie Atomic (working at the record store Wax Trax in Boulder, Colorado) introduced me to the music moonscapes of Galaxie 500. I was instantly hooked. While working on a creative writing major at the university the band's post modern lyrics and sounds felt close to divine intervention. After the band broke up I followed their sonic pathways as they continued on as The Magic Hour and Damon & Naomi. I guess good things do come to those who wait.
Jon Sarkin
Now that October has passed and winding through Salem is done with ease I can take my favorite road to Gloucester and visit the alchemist that is Jon Sarkin. In the short time that has passed since my last visit to his studio I was once again inspired by not only the amount of new work he's created but how many new paths he's explored. I've added more images to his gallery in my portfolio section and I'm already counting the days to our next time.
Peter Hook & the Light
Joy Division. New Order. Peter Hook. This is an impossible blog piece to write. If you get the chance to see him play these sonic narratives overlapping decades of music history: go.
Abracadabra! (New Explorations)
Today after voting and before I cover an election in Malden for the newspaper I had the luxury of returning to my work (at the Larcom Theatre) with the exceptional characters of Le Grand David and to see where the lives are heading since their historic run at the Cabot Theatre.
A Dream Sequence (A Series of Dreams)
"I was thinking of a series of dreams" Bob Dylan . . .
Salem Willows
Tomorrow is Halloween and Salem, MA is quite the spectacle in celebration of another face of this unique city is a project that I've slowly (very slowly) started: Salem Willows.
Tiny House giant journey
I had the pleasure of spending some time with these amazing people and take a peek into their chosen odyssey. Head over to their incredible website to learn about what they are doing: http://tinyhousegiantjourney.com. Hoping to spend some more time with Guillame, Jenna, and their wonder dog Salies before they hit the road . . .
Abracadabra!
Currently revisiting the work I did with Le Grand David and the members of the show at the Cabot Theatre in Beverly, MA. More to follow as I build a gallery on my portfolio section and as I continue on a new path/new work with members of the show that ran for a world setting 35 years.
Nico in the North End
one of my favorite brick walls of all time; why? an optical illusion
Somerville Boxing Club
I was lucky this past week to find time to return to the Somerville Boxing Club and visit with the boxers and the trainers. I've added more photos to the portfolio and here are a couple for the blog.
