Time Spent . . .
with my kids (their friends and random kids) on a day after school in early October. Back home my son once again poses so I can test a fifty year old lens and eventually my daughter agrees to pose for me too.
New 55: reinventing a legendary film
A couple of months before they successfully funded a Kickstarter campaign to reinvent one of the most ingenious Polaroid films ever devised by Edwin Land and his team: Polaroid Type 55. I had the wonderful opportunity to take portraits and hang out with these amazing individuals.
Here are the faces behind this new venture:
Artist Patrick McCay, New Hamphire
While working on an assignment for Design New England I was able to spend a fair amount of time working with the artist Patrick McCay up in his beautiful studio in New Hampshire. Here are some of the portraits that are not in the published article.
Chicen Itza
I visited Chichen Itza with my brother-in-law while on a family vacation. Pretty difficult to translate something as mythic making as Chichen Itza is. Imagination can run rampant especially when it comes to details such as the Great Ball Court; equally as fascinating to myself is the Mayan people who work inside and outside Chichen Itza for of course they are the present . . .
Visiting Family
Traveling to visit family allows me to step out of routine and explore people I have either known my entire life or have met for the first time. Other moments are excavated by breaking away from the group and meeting strangers while walking on the boardwalk of the Jersey Shore.
Martha’s Vineyard
One of the great benefits of editorial freelance work is travel. A ferry ride from Woods Hole to Martha’s Vineyard was an unexpected addition to my week. Before the shoot (portrait of William Taylor, founding editor of the magazine Fast Company), I walked around Vineyard Haven in the quiet early morning light. I met a man named Daniel who had recently moved to the island. I asked him if I could do his photo and he agreed. Another unplanned moment bore fruit.
